Okay, so I'm not hugely familiar with cory species,. I mean, I can tell that it's a cory and that's about it....I think they will be in the next tank that I buy, but I need to know much more information first....
The one I saw at the LFS was most transparent (you could see some of it's organs), about 1 inch long, and it had an iridescent green patch behind it's eye, on the gill flap. No other colouring. Any ideas what it could be? A link to a species fact sheet would be really helpful too...thanks!

Hi,
A pic would really help. It sounds maybe like a Dwarf Cory or a Albino Cory.

Sounds like an albino cory to me...could be Corydoras aeneus or Corydoras paleatus.
Here's a care sheet for C. aeneus: http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/cory-aen.htm
Here's one on C. paleatus: http://www.scotcat.com/factsheets/c_paleatus.htm. The 3rd picture on this site is of an albino.
Just in case it was a Corydoras hastatus, here's a site on them: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=324.

sounds like an albino to me too, but it could be dyed if it has green in it. do you have any pics?
Nope, no dye....it was the same green cast a betta has if it has a green wash.
dark eyes, so not an albino...checking the websites above. I'll let you know what I find.

Could this be it? http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=475.

It could be...the photo labeled "male" looks close, except these had less colour overall. But compared to teh size of teh gravel, it looks about right :) Thanks :)
Leave it to teh LFS just to label them "cory" and the price...hehehe

They seem to be pretty rare (couldn't find much info on them), so if they are a reasonable price, I'd snatch some up, if you have room. ;)
The picture of that cory on the corysrus.com site look more like your description. You can find it in the gallery of that site.

I just picked up an emerald green cory at Petco last night, which resembles your description. Except he's not really transparent, but he's also a bit bigger than your description as well.
The one I saw was an Emerald Green. I went to the other LFS and they had the tank labeled. I'm really thinking about getting a school together. In a 10 gallon all by themselves, how many would you guys stock??

If the Emerald Cories they sell are Bronchis splendens, they can get around 3 to 3.5 inches, so honestly, I wouldn't keep them in a 10g. 20g would be the smallest I'd keep them in, and I'd make that a 30" long one. I've heard of some Bronchis reaching around 4 inches, if that gives you an idea of just how large these particular cats grow. 10g gallons would only be room for maybe 4 of them, and to me thats not a big enough group to make them truly happy.
Any chance you could setup a 20 long for them? Then you could add a school of fish to occupy the mid-top area of the tank. :)

Just discovered this myself....was searching out water conditions and voila! I was assuming they would be a lot smaller. Thanks for your help!!
