raise the ive rock or set it on the bottom?

I am curious how to go about this..I will be in the final set up of my tank..(if it passes the leak test-see other 'nightmare' thread)

I am curious if you raise the rock or not.

I prefer to put the 'dead' rock on the bottom and stack the live stuff on top. Eventually it'll all be alive really though.

Like woot ... I too laid the base rock at the bottom and stacked the LR on top of it. I'd arrange at least the base rock first before adding sand. By doing that , there is nothing between the rock and the glass. If you stacked it on top of a sand bed, it is possible that a fairly strong sand digging critter could compromise the structure, causing the entire structure to tumble down!

thank you,'I read that sometimes they raise the rock by using sched 80 pvc pipe to construct legs..but that seems almost pointless.
