I have 2 2L bottles going and a Hagen natural plant growth system thats good for 20 gallons of water.

Am I over doing the C02 in my tank?

If so what should I do? Would I have to take one of them off?

And, what about having the C02 running at night.....is that going to harm my fish?

You are not overdoing it. The Hagen thing is probably only about a liter or so. Even if its 2 liters, you are just right with the amount of CO2 production you need for a 55g if not under it.

Leaving the CO2 on at night is the only way to do it. There is no off for DIY CO2. You could take the diffusors out of the tank or something, but thats not necessary. If you are worried about the fish, run an airstone at night.

Are your fish gasping or showing any signs of distress? If not, then I wouldn't be worried about it. :)

Your fine. It's almost impossible to overdose CO2 with a DIY system. Keep the system running at night because when CO2 is added to the water you pH is lowered. So it's best to keep it running to keep your pH stable. If you did shut it off at night you can cause a pH swing. Would it be enough to kill the fish? Not likely, but why stress them and have to go through the hassle of removing equipment every night. It's good to run the airstone at night because it will help oxygenate the water.

that is not exact.... DIY you really cannot overdose. Your main concern should be getting enough in there. Look at fish behavior...do they all hang up at the top and gasp? no? then you are fine. Are yo seeing pearling in your plants?

i bet if i got a wild hair up my a** and put like 10 2l bottles of mix on my 29g, i could overdose it. :P

I have a Hydor CO2 natural plant system, and I am using 1/8 tsp of yeast (I get about 1 bubble per minute do I need to increase yeast to 1/4 tsp??) , and I am noticing that 1 of my guppies is swimming only on the top. (looks a little different). It installed the system on Monday, and I am already noticing pearling on all of my plants.

Is this a good thing??

thanks
