I am making a part water part land viv in my 30 gallon tank.... I was wondering what you people thing is the best way to have a transition from land to water and vice versa. I am playing on separating the areas with siliconed together. Just looking for inputs... I want it kinda natural so i was thinking rocks? Maybe have a watever fall ish thing but would they walk up it to get out of watever... and just in general likes say some type of newt since im not sure what im putting in it yet.

you could have a slope of rocks leading down to the water.

....or a sandy beach. If you use sand, be sure your tank inahbitants wont ingest it.

If you read my sticky at the top of the forum, you'll see an idea for a "beach" area of all stones/pebbles. It's my favorite way of dealing with that transitional area if i don't have a gravel eating reptile/amphibian. Flat, medium size stones stacked work well too...if you can get them to slope right, they look very professional :)

I was thinking flat rocks sloping and some kind or like tree thing or something from water to land.

Hmmm....let me see if I can find a couple of pictures online for you with an old driftwood piece as a transition...I know my LFS had one, was very cool :)

This one has some good pictures, he used bamboo as a transition if you read the text, although I was unable to find picture of what he meant.

http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/46g.htm Has driftwood, but more like stumps that would be poking out of the water...

About a million pictures of different viv's. Mostly for dart frogs, but you might find something useful here... http://www.wildsky.net/vivarium/evivariu.htm

and one that uses stone, looks like slate. If you go to "galleries" at the top of the page, then "paludariums", it's the second picture down. Hold your mouse over the right side of the current picture, there's a hidden menu there... http://www.aquariumdesigngroup.com/detected.php?page=&pass=

I used to have several, actually. And the only pictures I have are on prints, was long before the digital camera age :) I had a ten gallon set up for my American Toad, very mossy and damp... and one for my anoles and green tree frogs. I'd really like to set up another one...maybe this summer...
You can see some of my tanks/pets at this link :)

The tank that the little turtle is in, is the old Anole tank. About 40% of the back wall has stones siliconed to it that left ledges and such for the anoles. I'll eventually redo the walls and cover the back and the two small sides 100%, transforming it back into a tank for a viv. But for now, it's got a hatchling turtle in it. :)

They are hard to care for when they are very little. Find foods for such a little mouth is hard to do...
