I have a month-old planted 24-gallon tank (an Aquapod, about 20" high with 65 watts, Eco-Complete and DIY CO2 I started 2 weeks ago). The cabomba has roughly doubled in height and several stems have reached the surface. It's not shading the rest of the plants or anything, but when - or should - I trim it?

also, just curious about the Amazon sword. It is putting out new leaves, but the existing leaves aren't getting any longer. The longest are maybe 10-12 inches now. Should I just assume I have some variety that stays that height? It's sort of my "centerpiece" and I was expecting a bigger plant.

Your Cabomba should be trimed when it reaches the height that does not completely inhibit light from reaching low foreground plants. Trim the leaf of gthe stem about an inch from the bottom of cutting and replant. Your Amazon will reach greater heights over time because of the constant trimming involved with the care of this plant. Not to worry, be patience. When grown out of water it takes much less time to get there but underwater that growing process is slow. Enjoy your plant tank!
