I just got two beautiful discus in my 45g heavily planted tank.
Tank mates
13 red eye tetras
8 black neon tetras
6 serpae tetras
2 blue rams
1 cory cat
1 small royal pleco

Its a very peaceful tank. any concerns?
The smaller of the two is already picking off the bottom.
But the larger of the two is just hiding under some plants.
Is that normal, Colors are still good. I really just got them 1 hour ago.
Any suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated.
Actually now they are both hiding. OK?

They might only be hiding because they are not used to the tank yet, soon they will come out to see more of there new home and then you will see them swiiming around and everything :)

i only got two new discus a couple of days ago

I hope everything turns out well keep us updated too

Your discus look beautiful too

Discus

It is normal for Discus to hide when moved to a new tank they are really she fish try bringing them out with frozen bloodworms they love them if there healthy they cant resist them

If they don't start exploring in about 72-96 hours, you will need to be looking closely at your water parameters.

one looks to be a pigeon blood
yes keep an eye on them..domestic discus are pretty stout..those appear to be pretty good sized discus..did you get them from a breeder?

they will hide a bit until they get use to the tank..if they continue to hide there could be something else wrong.
but they are not looking too stressed..discus tend to turn black/dark when really stressed.

My discus still hide a lot. When I feed they usually come right out. But when ever I come up to the tank they shoot right into the plants. This weekend I did some planting and a water change. That may have scared them. When my wife sits in front of the tank they come out and swim but if I'm even on the couch I see them watching me. When I get up they hide. But when I watch them some times it looks like they are looking for a way out of the tank. Ever seen that?

the issue could be that you only have the 2 discus..correct?

oddly some discus will come to recognise you as the food source..

in my discus tank the discus recognise me and shoot to the glass when I come in the room.

yet in my Q tank..the discus hide(3 just about ready to be moved to the main tank)

the smalest one in the q tank recognises me and will generally fgeed out of my hand..unless the pigeon blood sees me..it high tails it.

I expect that behavior to change when it is introduced to the main tank where the discus tend to come to greet me.
