That first picture looks like he's about to swim out the window...:)

What happened to him? Are they suppose to swim upside down like that (sorry, not familiar with the fish). For those abrasions/cuts though, I would treat with Melafix.

aside from keeping the water pristine, i'd add 1 percent salt to the water. this will mitigate the effect of fluid loss through open wounds resulting in osmotic stress.

Please not table salt.

Please not table salt. table salt is just fine. it's sodium chloride and that's what you're looking for. it's a myth that iodine and/or flow agents in table salt is bad for your fish ... there isn't enough of either agent to harm an amoeba let alone a fish.

the fish would die from extremely high salt levels before the iodine could even affect them.

hope he pulls though. you may want to lower the water level so it is easier for him to get some food.

I would personally keep the lights off in that tank. That will help make him feel more secure. Some sort of decoration may also help to limit the stress. Daily water changes with salt is a great idea.

I am worried about the crazy swimming, looks like he is having swim bladder issues. If possible keep the current as low as possible.

wouldnt table salt not work? Becasue salt is sodium cholide which has chorine, but maybe if its a very small amount?

We are talking here about Sodium Chloride with symbol NaCl, which is the main chemical in table salt. Table salt also usually contains small amounts iodine and calcium silicate. The iodine prevents goiter in humans that eat the table salt, and the calcium silicate prevents the table salt from caking.

Some people have added table salt to their aquarium water and had no problems. But other people have had trouble after putting table salt in their aquarium water. Therefore it is usually recommended that table salt NOT be added to aquarium water.

I for one had a problem with table salt and would never use it again and also aquarium salt is cheap enough.
