I have never kept any small cichlids before. I was wondering how many bolivian rams I can keep in a 20 gallon with 2 panda corys and 2 peppered corys.

Yes, I couldn't get by with 2 in my 29 because they were the same sex. You can't have enough territories in a 20 for 4.

well maybe I will get four or five and see if any pair off and take the rest back...Is it because of agression...I have read they are peaceful SA species...I dont remember seeing any information on temperment with each other though....hmmm

From everything I've heard, once the pair start breeding they will become agressive. (After all, they are cichlids. :) ) Also, I'm not sure if a 20 gal will give enough room for the cories to avoid the rams since they both prefer the tank bottom. Most community fish are mid to top dwellers, so maybe that's how rams got their reputation for being peaceful?

I have 2 that aren't a breeding pair in a 20g. I don't know whether they are same sex or not but they don't bother one another besides some chasing every so often. But then again I have alot of rocks and plants.

edit: Also they leave loaches and cories alone
