for anyone that likes to build they're own custom hood with custom lighting. i just completed mine and it came out so awesome! i used two dual 48" t-12 shop lights with coralife colormax bulbs-160w- and them i used my existing two coralife 3/4 watt lunar lights left over from my 20 gal, but they were just not bright enough for such a large tank. so i did some research. i never liked the look of a whole bunch of single led's, it just doesnt look natural. well i found the best moon lighting system ever, well i think so. it's made by a company called fishbowl innovations it is an ebay store, CHECK IT OUT! the system i bought included one moonlight which has three led's inside and a moonlight controlling system which creates a 30 day lunar cycle. its so great! and the system is expandable up to i beleive 5 or 10 without any additional power supply's. i hope you like it as much as im enjoying it!

what was the cost of your DIY setup? i want to DIY my lights, but only if it saves me major cash.

well i just went to home depot and bought a sheet of plywood $8. i sanded the hell out of it and painted it black, dont use spray paint, brush it on. and i used peices of 1x2 lumber to support it $4.
i bought two dual 48" shop lights $8.99e at my local ace hardware.
4-corallife t-12 bulbs from dr foster smith for 8.99e
and my moon lighting cost me 59.0 but you dont have to buy the whole system, you could just buy a singlle light setup for 35.00

fairly cheap, compared to buying a light system and a pre-made hood that could cost you up to $500.00

hope i helped!
