ok my dad and i bulilt a stand that measures 48" long by 24" wide. i didn't know that a 75 gallon tank was 48 and 1/2 inches long. the width will be fine but is there a chance that the tank would break if it was put on this stand since there will be a 1/4 inch left on both sides? what about a 120 gallon which is 48 and 1/2 inches long by 24 1/4 inches wide? if anyone thinks the 120 gallon would work than thats what i will get.
thank you.

This question was asked not too awful long ago, or atleast one similar. It might even have been on another board. Regardless, the consensus was to cut a piece of plywood the same size as your tank and place it under your tank. It'll be fine.

You should be fine with a high quality piece of plwood under it, though it should be treated with a water sealer. Depending on your finish and design, you might have to adjust your trim pieces.

I have built several stands and i always put the tank on a piece of 3/4: plywood with Formica lamination on it.

after the tank is on it
note that I have structural members under the tank itself for support, I like having a ledge around the tank

i can't post pics right now. in a couple days i will start a post with my pics. i really like how you cut the hole in the top for hoses and what not. i should have though of that.

I would be most worried about the stand being able to support the weight of the tank, but those other stands you built look like quality stands. The 1/2" on the other hand, isn't a big deal, like said, I would do some sort of wood underneath of it though to displace the weight evenly from the 1/4" tip that will hang off on both sides.
