How many apple "mystery" snails could I put in a 55 gallon freshwater community tank? I have heard that they release toxins into the water? not sure if thats true but maybe somebody can help me out. Thanks

i dont think they release toxins in the water, or less people would have them.

one should be fine unless you ahve alot of algea. with only one there is less of a chance of having baby snails taking over our tank and the singel snail will be able to grow huge

Well depends on what kind of snail you have. Calculate 2.5 gals per snail if getting brigs. Now that 2.5 gals should be exclusive volume for a snail and not shared with any other bioload. i.e 55 gal = 27 brig snails. Add fish- and you subtract the snails. For pomacea cananiculata (Cana- big tennisball sized snail) I like 10gals per adult specimen. Other varieties (giant ramshorns etc) I am not sure of but i think id use the same calculation as Brigs.

I have 3 in my 55 gallon and I think that's perfect for me...
