A buddy of mine has a 55 Gal. that has had no fish in it for a few months now. It is still full of water and has been cycling even though there are no fish in it. I am buying this tank from him in a week or so and (of course) and going to empty it to move it to my house.

The question is, once I fill it back up, is there anything I need to add to the water or just simply add water and let cycle (for how long should I let cycle before adding any fish?) I am brand new to Saltwater tanks and have absolutley no idea on what I am getting myself into as far as tank maintenance.

Can someone please fill me in on my questions?

It may already be finished. Check the parameters before you move it to see if there's any ammonia present. Then after you move it, check it again. If you're keeping everything in it and it was already finished cycling, you shouldn't have to cycle it again.

even if it did finish cycling (which can take from 2 weeks to 2months) whenever u move a tank they go through a mini cycle and also whenever u add new items as well. when i moved my established reel it went through a cycle even though it was almost 2 years ld.
oh and for additives u can use some cycle boosting bacteria cultures or similar products but u dont need to its up to u really. but u will ned a ph buffer and a calcium buffer or a combo of both together. and other additives depending on what u want in the final product.
