WHen mushrooms turn brown is this due to to much light. I have my hairy mushrooms at the bottom of the tank. I have a 10 gallon with 96 w pc. Every thing else is doing good.

what was the color of them before? and do they still open and act normal or do they seem stressed and are releasing lots of mucus?

before they were a greenish color. They do open i would say fully. They were stressed a couple weeks ago as they were completely shrunk up and some sort of purple stuff was coming out of there mouths. Do they need less or more light

did u recently get different lights? if so they may need to adjust if they seen distressed then you should move them lower or away from the light source.

Give them good water and some supplements and they should come around as it sounds they are doing.

Also take into consideration the color specturm of the lighting. The color of a coral at the pet store may not be the same as in your tank. Most pet stores use bulbs with a high Kelvin rateing and/or lots of supplimental lighting to bring out the flouresence in a coral to make it more attractive to potential customers.

I've noticed this in my tank as well. I have greens and reds which I bought while they were still small. They were vibrant under my lighting, but as they grew in size the color became much more dull. The dark greens have a brownish color when they are fully bloomed.

Hi , I have 15 green ones and 7 brown ones in my 14 gal and they are doing extremely well. Mushrooms are amongst the most hardy corals to keep. They arent very picky. :hang:
