I have both kuhli loaches and a dojo loach and am wondering which kind of loach you perfer?
I love to watch my kuhlis zip around the tank and squeeze through even the teeniest cracks...but, I do perfer dojos over kuhlis. My dojo will come up to my hand and will allow me to hand feed him, while my kuhlis will zip away as soon as my hand touches the water. I also perfer how much larger dojos are and how much easier they are to train and find in the tank. I love my kuhlis, too, but strongly perfer my dojo over my kuhlis.

I know this thread is kind of pointless...but theres got to be a few fun threads where everyone is free to have their own opinions :D

I havent had Kuhliis but from thier species profiles on loaches.com they are tropical fish 78*F and up so they shouldnt be kept with dojos which are coolwater. I have several dojos in my tropical tank but I am setting up a proper tank for them as we speak. Its just not good for them to be that warm. I do love the dojos personalities, they are very entertaining and definately one of my favorites.

i've never had the pleasure of having a kuhli loach but have had dojo loaches in the past. it was during my break in period back into aquariums so i didn't exactly give them the best aquarium. but in the time i had them, they were definately fun little creatures. the instant flakes began to hit the water, one of them would race to the top and try to eat them although you would think they were bottom feeders! well any flakes big enough that sank, they would sniff out and gorge on it.

in the future i want to set aside a large tank for Ranchu's (my favority fancy goldfish) and i'll definately add Dojo Loaches to the bunch.

They aren't in the same tank.

kuhlis are suited for tropical tanks, and stay smaller than dojos, so i prefer them because i like tropical tanks more than coldwater tanks.

Dojos can live in tropical tanks, the temp just cant exceed 74 degrees farinheit, which is also fine for many tropical fish, too. I have my four with my platys and guppies and the temp is 70 degrees. Both thrive in it.

And how would they do in a planted tank? Are they destructive to plants?

Ah I love this topic :) My male dojo loach is my favorite fish in my FW tank. He has a gentle but adorable personality. When I drop a pellet down for him my other fishes love to crowd around him and pick up the tiny bits since he is a such a messy eater. He doesn't like sharp movements, but he will inspect your hand if you place it in the tank. He is also one of my most hardy fish. I have had him for a while. He is happy, active and fat ^^

Not quite sure about live plants. But they love to dig. I will often find my large decore floating because he was searching for food under it.

Here is a pretty decent pic of mine.
He loves to hang out under the fake cave entrance I have. I really would love to take a photo or video of him eating.

Can I answer with "Clown Loach"

The full official name of the dojo loach is "crazy dojo loach".

I also keep one in a tropical tank at 26C, and it is by far the most active fish in the tank. The wife hates which is added amusement, and the kids call him the dragon fish.

I also have three clown loaches, and the four of them scramble for food chasing pleco wafers under shells and wood. Bizarely, two of the clowns have paired and the dojo has paired with last clowns. They swim around the tank in tandem rubbing necks.

Exactly how big can a Dojo get?

I love the look of the kuhli loach in my tank, small little faces, fun trying to find out where they are hiding.

The weather loaches that I own are always waiting for food at the top of the tank when I'm passing by the tank, same with the goldfishes.

I would go with kuhlis just because they reach a smaller maximum length.

Look here for Dojo Loach info: http://www.loaches.com/species-index/weather-loach-misgurnis-anguillicaudatus

Great place for loach info (loaches.com)

Oh what the heck, figure I'd share a recent pick of my dojo, a closeup headshot. I like the real close in pics but dont have a dslr or macro lense or anything, this is about the best quality I can get from a point n shoot 3.2MP

I have never had Kuhli but here are some neat pics by Emma Turner on loaches.com, not the regular Kuhli but a Pangio anguillaris:
