That's an interesting thought as I also run a 29 gal.

Just wondering how much weight that might be hangin' on the tank.

here is a little more info i posted on another thread
refugums are usually meant for lots of things. a true fuge usually consists of a remote aquarium or box connected to the main aquarium and it will have a sort of mud that then has live rock chunks n it and then an algae usually chaetomorpha in it. it is then lit 24-7 to help stabilize the ph through the macro algae continuing photosynthesis instead of doing cellular respiration at night like it normally would. then the algae also removes extra nutrients and phosphates. the mud works a a nutrient export and waste sponge. most refugums will also have a section with a sponge and some bio balls for biological and mechanical filtration and good fuges will come with a skimmer as well. they can also act as a refuge for sick or new fish and of coarse serve as a hatchery and breeding spot for pods which get sucked into the main tank for added natural food.
