yes, it is classed as a food safe oil, i would not hesitate to use it on the wood for a marine tank build...

depends on which one your useing cold pressed or boiled. Cold pressed is what they use for food products and boiled is what a lot of woodworkers use (including me). i wouldn't really trust it in a canopy for two reasons 1.) it wouldn't be the best protection againt water IMO. I'd go for a poly finish if no one would see it (don't like the yellowish tint it leaves) but it should give you the best water protection. 2.) boiled linseed oil heats up when you apply it matter of fact there's a warning about spontaneous combustion on the side of the contanier. Not sure on once it's dries if still as flamable or not I mainly use it to pop open the pores in the wood grain then throw a sealer on top of that. Like I said I'm not sure which one you plan on using but i've never seen or really look for raw-cold pressed linseed oil

just keep an eye out for fading (oil wareing off) or swelling (water obsorbing) BTY what type of wood did you use your blog doesn't show any pics of the hood

yes it does show pictures...lol check again i can see them. dont worry about ware and tear and all that i know what to look out for i used to build setups from the ground up i just had months for sealants to dry so i never had to use one on an established aquarium. my grandfather is a master craftsman and my uncle is a contractor so summers i worked with my uncle and learned everything from plumbing to electrical, or even how to build a house.
