I just started my new saltwater setup. After running the tank for a few days I added the live rock yesterday. My question is...are all of the things on the rock going to die as it cures. There are crazy amounts of worms, sea stars of all colors and sizes, a sea slug, several types of anemone looking things, and shrimp like things and feather dusters.
I love the diversity on the rock so once the rock cures...will they all die...do I need to get more rock after cycling so I can have these cool creatures?

it is pretty much hit and miss as to what will be alive on the rock...depends on how cured it was when you got it, how long its been out of water...Keep an eye on the nem looking things, they may be aiptasia...you will find out soon enough though...Any chance you could provide us with some pictures of what you have seen on the rock and we maybe able to help you with some id's....

On the question of do you ned to get more rock...that all depends on how much you have brought...remember the basic rule of thumb is 1 - 1.5lbs per gallon..If you need more rock, now is the time to get it into the tank because if you wait till it has cycled and then add some more, your going to starting another cycle off...A mini-cycle at the least....

I had many feather dusters survive (the small rock ones), a chiton and one or two worms. However I had a tiny stinging anemone that didn't survive (good thing for me). Is your rock colorful? Mine went from colorful, to brown (diatoms) and then back to colorful so I would say your rocks will still look amazing once the cycle is complete and give it about two weeks for color to come back.

It will be hit and miss on what lives and what doesnt each thing will have a different tolerance for ammonia and nitrates, nitrites, etc....
