When I woke up this morning I was shocked to see giant cobwebs in my tank with white things on it. I just got home and now they are gone. Anyone know what they were?

perhaps a vermatide snail? there are a few possibilities. do you have a pic of where they were coming from?

I saw my turbo snail spraying out a smaller version of the web from a tub yesterday. I thought he was pooping xD But now I think he might be doing something else since there was a very large amount of web around the tank. Any idea what happened to it? Did my fish destroy the web?

yea the vermatide snails make "webs" to catch food and lost of other mollusks will produce mucus as well. feather duster and corals also produce mucus pretty often and it liners if its gets to a dead spot. are th webs coming for tubes?

Ah thanks. They seemed to come from my snail, not my feathers. I thought turbo snails only ate algae and diatoms? Why would they need to catch food? As for my feathers. I spot feed them so they shouldn't be hungry. They seem to be fine right now. Could the cloud have been for reproduction?

lol yea after i posted it i realized it could be interpreted like that just the vermaited snail do that. i meant the others just produce slime or mucus trails that get stuck in dead spots. dead spots arnt a good thing though u want to avoid them.

Sorry, I am not quites sure what "dead spots" are. What are they and how do I prevent them?

Edit: Ah, I think I see now. Dead spots are spots that don't have good water flow correct? I believe my water flow should be fine. The "mucus" was attached to the walls and flowing. Its weird that the "mucus" would develop and then all of sudden disappear.

dead spots are spots without enough flow so it is basicly standing water. you can get a wavemaker and have numerous powerheads to prevent this.
but did you see any coming form the vermatide snails? germanman and i have both suggested them but you havent said anything. search them on google.
the cloud was most likely the releasing of sperm or egg from the turbos and they probably got caught on the spiderwebs
it was attached to the walls and JUST the wall?
perhaps a snail or somethign had crawled over it. i ahve some tongan nassarious snails and they leave quite a mucus trail.

I googled vermatides and the word vermaited but nothing showed up, thats why I haven't said anything. I mentioned that I did see the exact same type of webbie material coming from my turbo snail, just in small amounts.

Hmm... I never knew they produced so much mucus. Is this unhealthy for the tank? Should I be okay with my regular 10% PWC every 5 days.

Thats good. I didn't touch the webs, they disappeared on their own. I guess snails release a large amount for a short period of time and then stop for a while?

Thank you very much. I guess I was worrying a bit too much. But it was pretty freaky. Its shocking to see the water covered in it and then crystal clear when I return.

Although I still can find any info on those tube snails xD
