900 gallons is definately not comfortably "snorkelable"
and that is way too expensive.

their discus's (?) sure are great looking though!
Yea that tank has been on E-Bay before. It was at set at $50,000 last time I seen it, looks like the guy lowered the price because nobody has bidded on it but I doubt it will get an bids on this one either. It's a awesome tank, but not worth the money.

By snorkeling they mean sit in it I guess.
Thats out of control how do you transport something that big and will it even fit through a door way???

If he gets more than $3,000.00 I'd be very suprised.
But its custom made and is 900 gallons I say they could sell it for about 10g's if they give everything for it like filter and all that but not 35g's you could buy a car or put a down payment on a house with that amount of money. Its made of glass not gold.

I couldnt get half of what I paid for my 450gal and it was only 2 years old and flawless when i was getting rid of it. The depreciation of this stuff is amazing.
But the fact that it is so big and even if sitting you could go in and join them makes it even higher priced that and a serious fish person would buy it well a rich and serious fish keeper but then if you have that much money youde be better off making your own.

lol exactly. for 35K i build a much nicer tank that that one. My 450 was 9 times cheaper than that COMPLETE! if i double the gallons and i double the prices its stil lless than 35K. heck if i double the gallons and triple the price it still didt cost that much.
Man with that much money you should just buy a built in pool and mak into a pool / pond two in one just mkae sure nobody goes peepee in it.

Oh crud what a trip. See nice pool or nice tank I would go for the pool.

how many gallons is your pool Akido? do you know? that would be cool to have a pool turned into a full time tank outside. No heater required (odviously in warmer weather) no lights, SERIOUSLY snorkeling etc.

Man, I figure the average pool must be around 50,000 gallons or more. Can you imagine!!
While we are dreaming. You could do an indoor pool, say 50,000 gallons, surrounded by a greenhouse! Glasstop roof and plenty of additional light so you can control the light cycle. Huge U/V to keep things crystal clear (probably multiple is more realistic). Several huge 5000gph filtration systems. natural "soil" added onto floor and heavily plant, CO2, and add fish of choice. You could even go so far as to re-creat your own favorite vacation spot. You could create many possible biotope scenarios....and explore them with your family and friends!
Man, I need to quit....I'm drooling!

i'd take a bath in it daily for that price. Imagine the water bill, neverless the syphon LOL :)

If you really wanted to get a tank that large, and who doesnt, you can buy one new and a lot cheaper online at http://www.tenecor.com/ultraquarium.php

Most home pools are in the 10,000-15,000 gal range.

Umm... I've got a 18,000 gallon (16x32) inground pool that we are seriously considering converting to a koi pond.
Don't expect to put anywhere near 35k into the conversion, though....

do the girls come with it???
heck, the guy's in Everett, Wa - that's somewhere not too far west of me. Maybe I'll have to check it out in person...
But, geesh, for $35K I agree, I could buy a new Subaru WRX (one of my favorites) and STILL have money left over to buy/build something at least as large...
Wonder how much this guy paid for it initially?

Like this is really a good idea in such a small tank? Especially one that houses fish that are extremely sensitive to water paramters?

hey, I just though about something. Maybe the 35K is the cost of rebuilding his house after the buyer knocks out doors and walls to get the thing out of there?
AikidoGuy
04-24-2003, 12:04 PM
that is the reason why my 450gal stayed at my house when we sold it..
Ive wonder how would I get a tank in my room if it was 300gal or bigger but me myself wouldnt build one simply because I dont know how. But I got a big window going from the front of the house into my bed room so I guess I would just breack the window take the tank out from there and just replace the window. Its a solid window it doesnt open or anything its just a big massive sheet of glass.
thats really friggin expensive. but its nice though. :)

My parents have a 64,000g pool..... :)
Although well taken care of, it hasnt been swam in for over 5 years.
It would be an AWESOME pond or even saltwater setup. Could keep sharks in there........

As much as I love girls in bikinis I really can't imagine this being anything more than a planned photo opt. How they could enter and exit that aquarium without making a huge mess is beyond my comprehension. Even with a step ladder and plenty of towels inviting friends over for a swim with my fish is one nightmares are made of.

photo-op, or Photo Shop? If it is a fake, it is well done, but I know that it can be done with just a bit of time and effort.
You gotta wonder - those discus look awfully friendly. Maybe they feel more comfortable in a larger tank, or maybe...
You'd have to drain the tank 1/2 way down before you got in, unless you wanted to make you living room into a tank as well! I guess it could be part of tank cleaning - much easier to scrub the algae that way.

If the tank has a large enough sump you could jump in without causing an overflow.
If you want to see some big tanks download these videos.
http://www.gcas.org/videos/index.html
When you get to tanks this size its not the purchase cost of the tank, its the operating cost. You need to start using things like natural sunlight, and very efficient pumps (airpumps are more efficient than water pumps) heating and cooling need to be done with gas heat or lots of fans... Lots of planning and research.

only if there's a sump for all the water you displace to go to!
What, you'd keep a tank like that 50-75 gallons (guessing the displacement of a human body) below the rim?
slipknottin

You could put the sump anywhere below the tank, even in the basement or the garage. A 50-75 gallon tank would probably be fine, but with the space that tank has below, it would be a better idea to use a sump of 200+ gallons.

I think that some folks are overlooking one thing about the price of this tank...
The hand crafted woodwork.
I know people with 10,000.00 diningroom tables.
And as to the girls in the tank photo... First of all if you look close enough, you will be able to see... they are obviously midgets.
