hi there guys nd gals,i need some help with horrible brown algae.the tank has been up and running now for a few months and ive not had any problems before but in the last week or so ive noticed that my fake plants and decorations are slowly becoming covered in brown algae.. 1..what is it? 2..what causes it? 3..how do i get rid of it?

In my case, algae always comes from being lax on maintenance.

I would pull out your decorations and soak the in a chlorine solution (20:1).

Then clean the tank well and do a good water changes.

Clean off the decoration the best you can and rinse them well.

Add dechlorinator before you put them back in the tank.

Then keep an eye on your water quality.

Hope that helps.

dont think maintenance is the problem,im religious about that, took everything out yesterday and cleaned it all...oops,silly me,just found a mountain of info on this subject in the forum archives doh!! thanks all the same
