cant get ammonia down

i cant get my ammonia down it was pretty yesterday so i did about a 20% water change maybe a little more and today when i tested it it was at .50-1.00 (tank has not been cycled yet )

Is this the ten gallon? Does it still smell funny? How many fish do you have in there now? Just keep changing water for the ammonia.
If this is the tank you want to add a colorful fish to, Don't add anyone until the ammonia is gone. maybe not even thendepending how many you have in there now.

It may take more than a 20% water change. 20% of a high number will still be high. Try upping it to a 40-50% change.

thanks for your help and im not goin to add another fish untill the cycle gets setup and everything is stable (and it doesnt smell anymore :) )

you shouldnt get any more fish at all. your tank is fully stocked.

you should do another 20% water change, preferably more.
