I just got a new 55g tank last night that will have a black sand substrate and a large piece of driftwood. It will be filtered with a magnum 350. Also, I rescued about a 5-6" pleco that will be house TEMPORARILY in the tank.

Anyways, here comes the fun part - stocking the tank. I know for a fact that I will be adding either a JD or an EBJD. My LFS just got in nice shipments of both that are about 1-2".

I was wondering if I would be able to add anything to the tank with the JD. My first idea is a Texas but I am assuming that would put me OS with the JD and the Texas.

My question is if I would be able to use the 55 as a growout for the JD and TX? Once I get my tax returns I plan on investing in a larger tank where I will house a Green Terror.

If you have any other ideas of fish that might be able to fit in the tank, let me know.

Thanks for you help.

Sev's, Firemouths...?

i have a 6" JD, 6" texas and 7" firemouth, in a 55 with a fluval305, and penguin350... You can add more just make sure that driftwood isnto so large they cant swim lol

if you go with the larger cichlids, go with either one JD, or a pair, a texas grows larger and really wouldn't be comfortabe in there

if you get a pair of jacks, there really isn't anything you can keep with them..when they spawn..nothing lives

i would go with smaller cichlids for a 55

firemouths, salvini, acara, maybe a severum..with some small cats like pictus, or synos

I think I am going to go with one EBJD/JD, one firemouth, and ralph the pleco.

Few more questions -

Would 1 JD, 1 Salvini, and 1 Firemouth be too much?

How about 1 JD, 2 Firemouths?

If so I will be going with 1 JD and a single FM or Salvini

THE FISH IN MY TANK SEEM TO BE DOING FINE. THEY HAVE BEEN IN THE TANK FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS WITH NO FIN NIPPING/FIGHTING. SOME OF THE FISH WILL BE MOVED TO ANOTHER TANK WHEN THEY GET BIGGER.

Coincidence!

My Plecs name is Ralph also!
