i just rearranged my tank and now all my fish are going nuts. is this a common occurance when you rearrange a tank?

Depends on what sort of fish are in there, but moving territorial markers within a tank usually provokes fish a little bit.

yes. The fish are just sorting out their terratories and rearranging the pecking order that was upset by you changing the tank around.
Dont worry they will soon settle down.

Doing this isn't a bad a idea when adding a new fish to an established tank. It puts every fish on an even playing field, and makes the intro time easier for the newbie.

Yes, fish can get easily stressed when there is a major change in scenery, but once they get used to it, their behaviors will return back to normal.
