Anyone with a few extra bucks and wanting/needing to do a lighting upgrade might be interested in this article. The product sounds quite interesting and the article has some good information on lighting.
i skimmed through the article REALLY quickly... but here are a few things you should watch out for with some of those "convincing" pictures...
the scales are different in the pictures. while comparing the PAR levels, the solaris appears to be much better because there is a much much greater orange, yellow, and red area than the MH has. But the red (which is the highest PAR) on the solaris is 650-700 while the red on the MH is 900-1000. In fact, the tiny spot of red in the solaris is as powerful or even less powerful than the yellow, both shades or orange, and the red of the 250 watt MH. Also, if a 20000K XM had a higher PAR than the solaris, imagine what a bulb that actualy does have a high Par would bring, like a 10000K ANYTHING. we are also not told the brand of ballast or reflector the bulb is on that i saw. also, while the MH covers a 15X24 grind, the solaris only is covering a 10.5X9.5
i know, i know, the solaris is less wattage, but just a few things to think about.
also, as nice as they look, i am not ready to dish out $1800 for something that is not tested with acrualy growing corals by someone i trust or at least someone who isnt being paid to give the results....
