I resently started noticing these small (2mm) things growing on my LR close together. They are white/transluctant, they have a small tube base that fuses to 8-9 fanned out legs. They all look exactly alike. I am not quite sure if they are aptasia since they seemed to be so neatly arranged.

I will get the camera and try to take some. I just have to try to get the angle right or else they blend into the LR since they are so small. And I always get a horrible back glare.

I think I may have a (pretty good) picture of what you are describing, because I had them as well. I will post the picture if someone will tell me how.

Thanks for the reply ( I am new to furoms and to SaltWater). I was using the quick reply vs. the post message button, so now I see it. We will see if I did it correctly. I had to crop quite a bit, so hopefully it is clear. JWG

thats either a Strawberry Amenome Corynactis sp. or a white ball anemone, Pseudocorynactus sp.. they are generally reef safe and only really come out in the dark. they dont spread to quickly and get eatin by a lot of different things. they can sting things like most corals and are quite strong. some say they are desirable some beg to differ. i keep mine and they havent caused any problems in over 2 years. they are thought to be toxic to people can can sting you if large enough, otherwise they cant really hurt u unless u eat them or something.

usually clownfish ignore them. like i said they shouldnt be a problem if small bu sometimes they get to be very large and can then sting things

Thanks! I don't know if it will help the original poster, but it helped me. Unfortuanately, I was told it was aptasa (sp?) and killed it with Joes juice. It is the only and last thing I have killled. I will post pictures from now on before clarification before taking drastic action.

I am currently 4 weeks into cycling! Much easier to cycle than freshwater because all the cool things I see everyday in the live rock!

Look foward to the journey!JWG

Glad to hear you had luck with your unknown creature jayghmi. I should have posted earlier that I couldn't get a picture of mine. They were just way too small. My crabs have been munching on them so I am not too worried. If they start spreading like crazy then I will take action, but I haven't seen any new developements, just very happy full crabs.
