Does anyone have any experience with the 80 gallon bowfront tank with the Jetstream Super System? I got a great deal on it but the noise from the return pipe is ridiculous. How often can you turn down a complete saltwater system for $500???

The tank - http://www.marineland.com/products/consumer/con_jssuper.asp

I had a Tidepool 2 filter a couple of years ago and dont remember having this problem. I love the tank but cant deal with the noise. Any ideas?

Thanks

are you sure it is the return?
are any bubbles getting sucked up bye the pump?
is it a gurgling or a splashing?

Correction - the slurping noise is coming from the other tube. However, there are alot of small bubbles coming from the return tube and it doesnt seem to matter how deep the water level is in the filter.

aha.. perfect...
the noise is caused by the suction of the overflow, it is pulling down air, hence the slurping. to fix this, you can instal a durso-style overflow
you can even make one on that. all you need to do is put a large cap over the top of the intake tube with a small hole in the top. put the cap so that the hole is above water but the cap ends below the water.
here is a pic:

search on google if you dont get the concept or the design. or ask around here more

Sweet. thanks.

1 more question: This tank does not have the black semi-circular piece as in the pic. Should I install them or will the standpipe work without them?

which picture are you talking about? the skimmer on the overflow for your tank?
it doesnt have to be there if you have a durso, it would actualy be easier to make one without because you could use this style:

same idea, but just easier, all you would need is a T connector, a little elbo, and a cap on the top. this, however, would assume that when you remove the "semi circle thing" it also removes an inch or so of pipe. if not, then you can just use the one that was shown above.
