i have a 30 or 35 gallon tank with a ryukin and a fantail, about 2-2.5 inches minus teir tails, and 1 "mystery' snail, i want to add a few more snails, my lfs basically has ramshorn or the mystery snails, which i assume are just dark colored apple snails. ill propably go with the ramshorn, i had some very active ones before my fish ate them. i dont have room for a quarentine tank. i got lucky last time i added some but the more attached i get to my fish the more caution i use. my questions are: whats a good way to NOT introduce any parasites, etc from the lfs tank into my tank? i know not to add the h2o from the bag, but a salt dip maybe, what strength and for how long? how many can i safely add to eat detritus and algea without adding too much more poo to the tank? i dont have aggressive algae but ive got some on my plastic plants and exterior of the ovation filter near the waterline. my perameters are fine (im out of strips but im a consistant 20 no3, 0 no2, hardness 120, alk/buff 80-120, ph 6.4-6.8) i have an ovation 1000 w/ foam and carbon and cascade 100 with just the mechanical cartridge, and i change 5 gallons once or twice a week.
