What is a good easily aquirable material to put in my lighting hood?

I heard aluminum defracts, anything else?

A cheap mirror cut to size and glued in place?

What kind of hood is it? If it's a regular box shape, just paint the interior white.

it's a shop light with a grey finish. It has a LOT of room since it's for t-8's or t-12's, I've only got t-8's in it, so it leaves alot of room to put in some kind of reflective material.

mirror sounds ok, but I'd rather not try cutting and scoring glass. I was hoping there might be a paint or other type of lightweight easier to work with material.

You could polish the reflector then clearcoat it to prevent rust, unless it's SS then just polish it. You're not going to get any noticable increase in the amount of light coming off of it though with any coating. You'd have to play with the geometry to do that.

If you like the idea of mirrors, but don't feel comforatble cutting glass, go to a plastics materials company (yellow pages) and ask for "Mirrored Acrylic". It's easy to bend, cut etc. If your not comforatable with that, go to a hobby shop that specializes in model airplane stuff and get the silver mylar material that they use to cover model airplane wings. It's sold by the foot and comes adhesive-backed or plain. If it's plain, buy some spray adhesive at home depot.

I like the silver mylar idea...gonna check it out
