I think the most attractive cichlid is a male Geophagus brasiliensis. The combination of shape and color is just beautiful.
I had one for years and we called him Mr. T - he was the boss, but wasn't mean.

It's a Dwarf, and most people have no idea they exist. They co-habitate with Rams and Angels quite well. The 55 I'm building is going to have a pair in it.

I have a pair and they have spawned once... I keep them in a 10g they are awesome to watch too

They co-habitate with Rams and Angels quite well.
It looks like a ram, in the shape...but really cool colors, nice fish

I have to say, the most beautiful fish I've ever had was a female nicaraguense--the charm was not just in the unique coloring, but also in the sort of goofy appearance! They never seem to look good at the LFS, but once they're at home in a nice big tank with good food, they can be a real show stopper. Oddly, I think the female is much nicer looking than the male in this species.

(Incidently, this is not my photo, just a link to one which looks very similar to the one I had. The colors are really nicer than you see in the photo: the gold on the top tends to look brighter and more metalic than this picture shows.)
