Looks like a female to me. I'm no expert, but I'm on my second mated pair and your jag looks just like my past and present female. Can you get more of a side picture of your jag?
Sorry, can't help with your question, just wanted to say its a pretty fish. Nice pic.

Bump. Lets let the experts answer this!!
I think it's a female. It looks very much like my female, the same bodyshape, the same line of spots and so on... But then again, I could be wrong...
Anyway, here are some things that I've noticed in the very short time that I've had my jags...
1. Males have spots on all their fins, females also has spots but they are much lighter in colour. The males also has a tint of blue at the very end of their fins.
2. Females has a plumper bodyshape, males are slender.
3. Males has a lot of spots on their belly and the lower part of their face. In fact they have spots pretty much all over their body.
4. Males usually rule the tank and pretty much harass the females all day long...
5. Females has a very dark line of spots down their lateral spine, males has those spots too but they break up i a bunch of other spots all over their body.

Man getting confused with the new forum but your Jag is a female well should be anyways Ive heard of females looking like males but never a male looking like a female. Females keep the big middle bloches males dont the turn to small spot females bottom spot stay light in color male stay dark the blue color on the ends of the tail is apparent in male and female. Most jags get very aggressive males more so then females except for some rare occasions besides mating. Ide bet a hundred dollars that its a female. So hope this helps.
Bom dia,
Tanks all, i thinking its a female but her agressiveness confused me
Obrigado
Hard to tell.
How big is it?
A female, juvenile male or one of the sub dominant males can look the same.
A dominant male will be spotted at a mature age.
F176 has some very good pointers though.
Don't let aggressiveness fool you! :D
My female is a terror. She recently started trying to bite me through the glass and is charging the glass a lot more. And she loves to chase me back and forth to each end of the tank. She just keeps getting more nasty as time goes on. But I like to say it's all personality! ;)
I can only imagine what it's like to keep a male. I'm kind of hoping my other Jag is a male(still too small to tell) so maybe I can see a difference.

I wish I had one, some day :(
I also think it's a female, but if you could post a picture of its side I would probably be 100% sure...
Nice fish btw.

Don't be confused with her aggression. My pair just spawned two days ago and I put my hand in the tank to move my therometer to get some clear pictures, the male took off but she bit me, which is not the first time since this is their fourth spawn.
