I got a green chromis yesterday to be the first fish in my tank. very active and looks happy so far. The person at the pet store said they should be feed once a week. Does this seem right? Also i know they eat frozen shrimp cubes but would it work to feed him the pellets which i use for my beta? I know this seems like a dumb question but i am just curious.

I dont believe in using pellet food in the tank as there is mroe of a posibility of it getting into the substrate, rather than staying in the water column and being skimmed or filtered out...

I would also feed every other day...

pellets are okay as long as you feed a little bit at a time (enough for the fish to eat them without them settling). however, dont believe that they should be fed once a week... i would suggest every day, but every other day is suitable.
also, dont feed those pellets. they are intended for freshwater fish and do not have the nutrients or amino acids that saltwater fish need.

yea that isnt a even close to being the right food. they should be fed every day and for the first week id feed them twice a day every other day to fatten them up a bit. also later on when you get different fish a high quality brand of frozen foods should be fed to your fish with the addition of a supplement like Selcon or Zoa Marine to give the fish what most foods lack. pellets should be feed very slow to make sure they dont hit the bottem and they can foul up the water pretty bad id recommend not using pellets at all because working in the trade ive seen to many problems arise for the use of them. they do have good vitamins for the fish though so if you can use it as an occasion but not as the main food. i dont use any dried foods in my aquarium only frozen and liev foods are used with supplements.

do i need to de-frost the frozen food before going into the tank? I know this seems like a bad question but i just want to be sure.

best thing to do is to use a dixi cup or plastic cup thats new(no chemicals) and then put some of ur water in it then put the frozen food in there and add suppliments if u have them. let it soak up and melt and the feed it by poring it in slowly or with a turkey baster or eye dropper.
