what powerheads would be best for a 33 gal. and how many should i have in the tank? Also is there a specific way to set them up to produce the best results?

There is no hard and fasy rule about how to position a powerhead in the tank. Its one of them things that you have to keep playing with untill you find a place that gives good flow and you dont have any dead spots..

A couple of maxijet 600's would be just fine in your tank in my opinion..

yeah maxi jet are the best on the market at the min,

you want the total volume of water in your tank to turn over a min of 10 times per hour but 12times would be better even up to 20times in some cases

so your tank is 165litres so you want a min of 2x600`s & a 400 maxi jet power head will turn your tank around 11times per hour unless you have additional flow in your tank filter etc then you could scrap the 400 power head

position well you could start by tilting them down slitly & both of them pointing at a spot in the centre of your tank. but yeah there`s no rule but as you get things that need flow corals you can adjust them to suit there needs can be tricky belive it are not but we all learn from our mistakes so just keep at it

good info there Sap....

It all boils down to flow and inhabitants...if its just fish only, as stated, 10x flow is adequate...However, some corals are going to need 25 - 30 x turn over.. I have just done my own diy build, and have made it 30x turn over as i dont want any restrictions....If i need more, i can just bung in a seio or something to give me that extra boost of flow...

I have two power heads in my tank one on either end on either side and they are just at the top should i push them down closer to the middle or
point the thing to the bottom. Also when I turn them up it gives out alot of bubble are they surpose to be like that?

probably yes, move down towards the centre more...there is no hard and fast rule of where to have them..You will know if your circulation is not right as you will get a build up of brown diatom algae and detrius build up in dead spots...

Dont point them at the bottom unless you want a snow storm of sand....he he he...could get messy that...

Yes, they may well eject a burst of air bubbles when you turn them on sometimes..

the bubbles are constant.

All it will be is air trapped inside the propellor chamber..If you raise the inlet out of the water (keeping the outlet under water) for a second or two and totally submerge, it should clear out any trapped air..may have to do this a couple of times..I get it with my maxi-jets when i periodicaly clean them...
