Terrestrial onions flower and seed so I'd assume the same for Thai onion. It probably sends up an emerged flower.

Can anyone give me details about onion plant care? I saw some at my LFS and wanted to get some, but was unsure about light requirements, water quality requirements, difficulty, etc.

There are:
-Zephyranthes candida (sometimes called Dwarf Onion Plant)
-Crinums, which all get HUGE are refered to as onion plants often
-Crinum thaianum (http://www.tropica.dk/productcard_1.asp?id=093)
-Crinum natans (http://www.tropica.dk/productcard_1.asp?id=094)
-Crinum calamistratum (http://www.tropica.com/productcard_1.asp?id=094A)
Might be some more that are called onion also, not sure.

Onion plants are easy to take care of and do not normally require a lot of care or light. They do require some of course. It has been my experience that they reproduce slowly if at all. I have only had limited sucess with them but they do look really nice in the aquarium towards the back. Even the dwarf ones can grow quite tall.

Of course the one I dont have  but I do beleive they are all fairly easy to care for, except for calamistratum which requires high light. There is a breif description on the link I provided about flowering, and also if you see the pic it shows a bud forming from the bulb.
