I'd say male too
the reason i was asking is because he is the only one of his type in the tank and he had started schooling with my neon tetras (normal behaviour?) when he was young and had no colour. Now he has gone orange as the picture shows and still schools with the neons but now he swims up to them and pushes them not hard or like hes attacking them. just seeing if they move or something.
Today i brought a female one for him to play with and he has stopped schooling with the neons. now my neons swim all around the tank instead of hanging out in a little group by a log. why is this?
Oh and how long do i have to wait before i have fry swiming in there? and is it ok to let them live by survival? e.g they hatch and fend for themselves if any live they live if not they make a good snack for other fish?

I can't tell you the answer to your first part, but guppies will cross mate, not sure about with neons though, but swimming with a group seems pretty usual as guppies like to be in groups.
Fry - depends on whether the female you bought is pregant; whether the tank is Ok for her to get pregnant if she isn't - mind you they are known for prolific breeding, so it won't be too long either way and YES, it is Ok to let the fry live by survival - many aqaurists keep livebearers (Guppies, Mollies, Platys and swordtails) in their tanks primarily to provide a supply of live food for the other fish.....

In order to have fry, you probably wont have to wait too long. Guppies are pretty proliphic (sp?). Anyhoots, most people would get a ration of one male and two females but what you have may work, he may pester her to the point of her exhaustion though. The are live-bearing fish so hatchings won't be the issue. It's perfectly fine to let them go as they will and letting the strongest survive, make sure you have a lot of plant cover though to ensure some of them do survive.
As far as the neons, with the male having a new object of his affections, the neons are probably now freed up so they can swim all over the tank. I would imagine they were being coralled by the guppy.
And no, they cannot cross-mate as guppies are livebearers and neons are egg-layers. It's virtually impossible.
will my guppy chase the female till she shags him or is it going to be constant? she has places to hide from him cause i brought some elodea i think its called before i put her in.

he will chase her until, during and after then... which is why 2 females are often suggested.

It is a male fancy guppy you can tell by the fins and the lower fin That comes to a point. with guppies all that you need to do is introduce the male to your females for a short period of time like a week and they will mate. You can leave your male in the tank or remove him to an all male tank. (thats what I do It makes a very colorful display tank) The female will store sperm from the male for later use plus fertilize the eggs that she is already carrying. if you are trying to breed for certain color patterns in guppies its is best to let the female spawn out and let the babies get eaten for your first spawn Because you are not sure of what male actually bred with her in the pet store. after that introduce your male you would wish to breed. one male can cover many females. so your actual ratio could be upto 1:20 This will keep stress off your best stock of fish in a reasonable size tank such as a 15 gallon but a 10 would do fine. After they breed the gestation period is about 1 month give or take 5 days all depending on your water temperature and condition.when she is close to time to have her babies remove her to a breeding net or seperate tank. This will keep the babies from being devoured by hungry mouths. Make sure that the female is removed from the breeder net shortly after. If you seperate he into another tank make sure there is plenty of cover for the babies. Java moss works the best. Its is also very important that you cull any fry with defects out when they are young because guppies can breed in a about a month and a half from being born.
i brought a second female today except its blue with a bright yellow tail ive been told its a female guppy and it will mate with a fancy tail. For some reason tho (i thinks it just cause shes new) she will hang out with the neons and the other 2 just sit at the top of the tank and dont seem to notice her. will guppies breed with other types of guppy?

Guppies are constantly at it, worse than rabbits...you need 2 females for every male or the females get tired out...the fry need saparated as they are very tasty food for most fish.
I wouldn't get too upset about keeping the fry as the females will comstantly bear young..just be happy for the free food (unless you want a few hundred guppies)
