View Full Version : My new tank
This is my Juwel 180L
Water a little cloudy because I just did the Rockwork (and my phone camera is a touch useless).
Plants look v fake and need another effort.
Will try to take some better pictures when water clears :)
I love the rockwork...what are you going to put in there?
what kind of rock is that?

Looks nice...maybe shift the plants to one side or with a bunch towards the center....think asymmetrical.

looking nice.
Thanks folks,
Couple more rocks in, water is clearing now - good idea on the plants fishboy; I'm going to thin them out on the right and move some over to the left to lean into the tank more.
Siren - undecided on stock. Wanted a rock tank lol so decided to put it together and see where the water parameters were, then base decisions on what would be happiest in the tank. Ph now stable 8.2, water is hard.
Thanks for the encouragement - havn't done this before so nice to get good vibes !
Open to suggestions...stock & decor
edit : D-man - that is the kind of rock that was at my LFS and that I like the look of lol...sorry can't be more helpful. It and the crushed coral substrate have taken my ph from 7.2 out of the tap to 8.2 (tank running 10 days now).

That is beautiful rock work. I know what would be great for those water conditions and they would provide you with lots of viewing pleasure when it comes to exploring all those nooks and crannies in your rock.
I'll give you one guess:) .......Electric Yellows......mine are very active. And they are hyper compared to my Blue Aulonocara h., they just aren't as fun to watch as my yellows. So, what kind of rock is that? Was it spendy? Well any way I look forward to seeing your tank with fish. Happy Fishin'

The rock you have in your Aquarium is Tufa rock,
it provides lots of cover and hiding places for fish,
you have arranged yours very nicely.
With your ph reading 8.2 I would keep mbuna in
that tank, never a dull moment with them, not very
hard to breed, and a hardy fish as well, just my 2c.:)

I agree! The rock is stunning and placement looks incredible. Very impressive! I can't believe you haven't done this before. That tank looks like a pro!

Very nice tank. I have a Juwel 180 being delivered tomorrow 1/3/07. You have given me some good ideas.
Thanks
That tank would make an amazing invert tank for several species of shrimp, crays (think blue electric and a bright red)...they'd really set up house peeping into all those holes....
But if you want fish...hehehe... I'd go with the mbuna too... :)

i like it.... now for the fish.
Thanks again for your comments (again, as a first-timer, encouragement is brilliant!). I've had a go at the plants - thinned out, moved inwards on each side, and zig-zagged a bit, so more asymmetrical
I read this article - sounds wonderful...tank too small ?

its off to a great start
And so there are fish in now, but I don't have pics. Plus the little buggers havn't really settled in yet and are making extensive use of the rocks for cover.
Added two on Friday, one on Saturday, one on Sunday. That's it until I know everything's caught up with them. All feeding on tiny amounts except the last guy in yesterday but he looked in better form this morning.
Making some notes from that article in the link in my post above, I put in one aulonacara sp. O.B, one aulonacara uissiya, one yellow fin acei, and one yellow lab. All male and we'll keep an eye to see if anyone needs to go back.
and the yellow lab is a bit of a worry as per my thread in the Cichlid forum. I think he's got a shot though, just v. stressed by the move. Fingers crossed

That looks more like Texas holey rock, to me. Tufa is really coarse, like lava rock, or sorta like rough cement. I have rock that looks just like that and it is limestone rock that comes from around Austin, TX. Great rocks for African tanks.
Hey Coler! We need to see this tank, please.:)
