Hi,

Please shout at me if this has been covered before, but i am new to this site and have looked but not really been able to find the answers i need.

I have just purchased a new tank (4 x 2 x 2) which has a corner weir and drilled in the bottom far left corner, it came with a sump (36" x 15" x 18").

The sump currently houses 3 different grades of filter sponge where the water first enters the sump, then a sh!t load of alfagrog. it also has 2 heaters and space in the last section for a return pump.

I was wondering if there was any other media i could have in this sump to help keep my water in tip top shape as i am wanting a couple of oscars and a few other South american cichlids in the tank.

Heres a rough outline of how the sump is:

Thanks for any help!

I would think ceramic noodles like Efimech would work well.

pot scrubbers, fine gravel tied up in a white clean sock, bioballs ect. anything that will bleed water and is fine in texture.

your right. i didnt know what alfagrog was. i dont know.... maybe floss. it would be a good mechanical and biological filtration.

I use plastic drinking straws cut into 1" pieces.
