View Full Version : new tank
I may be getting a new tank next week. I not sure of the gallons yet but from what i'm told its big ( roughly 10ft long 2 1/2 ft wide) Since this is so big i was wondering how long would it take to grow my own live rock? id still buy some plus i have a 90 gallon up and running now that i could steal some from. But i know ill need more I'm not in a big hurry to stock it with fish or anything ( already made that mistake on the 90 gallon) Any advise would be helpful thanks

I would go with a ratio of about 2:3--2 pounds of good stuff per 3 pounds of plain tufa/base rock. With quality water (ie, calc, alk, etc in good shape), with enough light, things should fill in quickly. You'll want to start with premium LR--I'd get it uncured off the net from 2-3 places, to increase the variety. Then, within probably 6 months, should be good to go.
Big tank--what are you thinking of stocking it with?
thanks for the info thats pretty much what i thought but i wasn't sure As far a stocking the the tank i really have no iidea the only thing i really want in it is an eel everything else i'll figure out as i go
Oriongirl, where's a good site to buy rock uncured?

There are several threads here-do a search for words live rock and online. Since I haven't ordered rock online, I'm really not the one to recommend someplace! ;)
