I live in Canada and fish tanks are quite expensive here. At my LFS a 50 Gallon Hagen Tank (I think AllGlass makes Hagen Tanks?) with hood and stand costs about $500 and that's without filters, heaters, gravel, decortations etc. However, at My local Walmart they have a 55 Gallon tank with hood, heater, filter etc. for about $300. I know that the filter and heater aren't that great, but I have a friend with an AC 500 so it's not that big of a deal. I have also been looking in the classified ads for quite some time, but there are no deals to be found. Most tanks are only slightly cheaper than new so it makes more sense just to buy a new tank. I was just wondering if anyone knows who makes Walmart's Tanks, or if anyone has had any experience with them. Are they good? Should I just save more and get the Hagen?

I have a 10 gallon Wal-Mart tank that I'm using as a quarantine tank and it works fine. The equipment with it isn't top-notch quality but it's good enough.

for most cases, it really doesnt matter who makes the tank, as long as it holds water, looks nice, and has some kind of warranty

I agree with caz but I have to say that a warranty doesn't do you much good if you come home all of your fish are dead and you have fifty five gallons of water on your living room floor. If that happened would you really want them to replace the tank? Not to say I have ever had thet happen with a walmart tank. I had a ten gallon and it worked quite well, it held water and everything.

yes they carry hagen products, but push their own products first, my sister just asked for the upgrade and they obliged, i imange all the stores wud do this , just have to ask.

she told me if they said no, she wud just buy the ac500 and not use the other filter, i beilve the ac500 was around 72.00 cdn

dont forget to keep an eye out on used tanks as well. i found one that was a 75 gallon with a homeade stand for 70 bucks. i just had the guy give me a little guarantee for like 48 hours, i brought it home, and filled it up, and waited a few days.

I would reccomend buying everything that does not weight a lot from dr foster and smith. For instance, an Aquaclear 500 cost about $70 at Petsmart while they are only $32 + $7 shipping. A total of $39.00. Thats almost half off!

Ok. Thanks a lot everybody. Hmmmm. I am not sure if it'll be worth getting the 55 over a 33 as they are the same width. A for the stand, I can build one pretty much for free as I have a few connections to a local lumber mill. I dunno though. I might just get the a 33g hagen starter and save a bit of money (the cost of the kits are close, but I would have to change the filter and heater). From what I've heard walmart tanks are generally ok, but I'd still have to swap out the heater and filter. This would cost me $125-$225 here in Canada. Thanks for the input though; more is always welcome if anyone has input on what tank I should be buying. Thanks a bunch!

Just bought a Tiger Oscar. He or she is about 3 inches long now. Also bought a Tiger Barb. Right now the Oscar is territorial, later on when it reaches it's adult size do I have to worry about it eating the Barb? Or should I return the Barb and purchase another Oscar?
