this stuff any good? I bought it on impulse as it said one of the things it does is aid plant growth. It's a blackwater extract. Does it soften water as well as acidify it? If so will it mean I can keep softwater fish? Presumably it will be good for my angels and harlequins. ATM my water is pH 8+ and dh 18, so if I add this stuff slowly it won't stress the fish, right?

If I were you I would not worry about softening the water. If you do that you will always have to be messing with that and it gets old really fast. The fish will perfer a stable ph more then a supposed accurate ph for that type of fish. They will adjust especially if they are locally raised since they are most likely used to that water anyways.
