i just bought two tiger barb's that were in the same tank together along with a bunch of other barbs. when i brought them home and acclimated them into the tank,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the one keeps charging after the other. the one that is getting charged seems to be a female. i only say this because the one looks pregnant. the front/lower part of her stomach is bigger than the other barb.

im not sure how to tell if she is pregnant, but what is making the other one charge it? sometimes they seem to chase each other, next time they float next to each other then other times he charges at her.

any ideas?

what size tank do you have?

barbs (they aren't cichlids, by the way, they are of the cyprinid family) do best in groups of 5 or more. with just 2, the dominant one will harass the weaker one continuously, or it will go after other tankmates too. In larger groups, aggression is spread out and no one fish is a constant target. If your tank is large enough, i would advise getting several more of the same kind.

Tiger barbs? None.

i would either get a bigger tank or different fish. even when you have a group, they need space to chase each other, and room to hide if necessary. I would think a 30g is minimum to house an appropriately sized group of barbs.
