Eclipse hood

My darn eclipse hood for 29 gallon can't close with my protein skimmer in the way. Also i just got a damsel to cycle my tank. It has been in the lower corner of my tank since I put it in this morning. I may have acclimated or whatever to fast. Should I turn on the light? Oh yeah I can't my protein skimmer is in the way :mad: I dont want to cut up the hood. Thanks for replies :)
 
I can't help you with your skimmer as mine is underneath my tank in the cabinet. I'm just wondering if you have a test kit yet (ammonia/pH/nitrite/nitrate)? Since you chose to cycle with fish your damsel will be subjected to any cycling water conditions..unless you closely monitor them with a test kit and perform appropriate water changes.

Oh and I wouldn't turn on the light just yet. Since your damsel is still getting used to its new surroundings the light may stress him out even more.

Also, your sig says you want a clown with an anemone. If you purchase a tank-bred clownfish or even some younger wild caught one, there is no guarantee it will even go near the anemone.

To start off with, the best you can do for yourself AND the fish, is take the fish back to the store and get some store credit for it...It is so very cruel and inhumain to be using a fish, even a damsel, for cycling a fish tank..If left in, and it survives the potential ammonia poisoning, it will cause you so many problems when you next come to add any other fish to the tank...

There are many ways to cycle a fish tank that. You can use pure ammonia, a dead shrimp or prawn, fish food...

Your choices are a little limited when come to your hood problem...Am afraid to say you only really have two choices. Either cut the hood, or change equipment..I cant see any other way that you can acheive your goal...

Hmmmm by problems after the cycle is over do you mean the damsel being aggressive? I don't think I can cut the hood. THe hood is also the filter and the part thats not a filter is the light... Hmmm well I'm confused. I also don't want to spend too much money.:confused: :confused: :confused: THanks anyways
 
problems after the cycle do mena aggessiveness...they are little swines i tell ya...

Another solution is to DIY i a hood for the tank, then you can build it with the skimmer and lights in mind..Could be done very cheaply i would imagine...

Depending on how much live rock you have, you may be able to get rid of the filter anyways...

Also whats up with kelvins? I read about it but i don't really understand. Is it How mcuh the light warms up the water? And do corals and such need a certain amount of kelvins to warm up the water? Then what about the heater?:confused: I'm new:)
 
I have 15 lbs of live rock. I'm hoping to get some more later. I don't know when though. My filter has 2 steps? first it sucks up the water then sprays it at, can't remember what its called, but it's blue and has those black carbon things on the back. Then the water goes through a bio-wheel and back nito the tank. I'm not too good at explaining thngs. If i get enough live rock Do i completely need no other filtration?
 
Forgot to mention- I have a 29-gallon QT tank that I keep fish in and it doesn't have a skimmer. My friend has a large tank (180 gallons I think it is) and he doesn't have one either. I don't know how he does it honestly because there's not much live rock either however he always has excellent water parameters.

I'm not recommending that you don't use a skimmer though. If it were me I'd cut the hood or just leave the hood off altogether.
 
Ehh.... leave it off? As in get a new one?
