My daughter put the filter with the carbon in it into the filter without rinsing it first. The water looked fine until the next morning. I t was so gray you could hardly see the fist. I did a partial water change but it didn't help to much. will it harm the fish? What should we do?:help:

It will not hurt the fish. They will be oblivious to it. It is however unsightly to us so a few water changes will help along with a carbon insert that has been properly rinsed. It will clear in a matter of hours and certainly by tomorrow at this time.

not to be an alarmist but actually, it 'can' be detrimental to the fishes respiration by clogging the fine gill filaments. i'd do successive water changes to try and reduce this as much as possible.
