Hi all,

We need professional help in setting up tanks (in terms of water flow in between the tanks (there are quite some tanks), the main water holding area consisting of the UV lights.. etc)

Any recommendations on who can we look for?

Regards,

The Bucks County Aquarium Society will be holding its Annual Workshop on June 8th at the Silver Lake Nature Center in Bristol, PA. This year's speakers are:
Francis 'the fish geek' Lupangco from NatGeo Wild's "Fish Tank Kings" speaking on "The Establishment of Large Aquariums in the Middle East" and "Quarantine Procedures" - don't miss the new season of "Fish Tank Kings" premiering on June 1st!
Legendary reef guru Albert Thiel, author of numerous books and articles including the just-published "Nano Reef Aquariums" speaking on "Nano Reef Aquariums from A to Z" - he will also be signing copies of his latest book
Marine breeding pioneer Todd Gardner of the Long Island Aquarium who has many captive bred firsts to his credit speaking on "Frontiers in Marine Fish Culture"
Phil Bradley presenting a DIY workshop on LED Lighting. Phil will build a nano sized led fixture with Cree bulbs as part of his presentation. There will be a special raffle for the light.
We'll also be featuring a consignment sale of freshwater and marine fish, inverts, plants and supplies. Sellers will pre-price their items and the BCAS will handle their sale. The split is 80% to the seller and 20% to BCAS. Entrance into the consignment sale area will be in the order of registration so the sooner you register the earlier you'll get into the sale area and the better the selection will be. This is always a hugely popular part of this event.
Registration starts at 10:30 am. The consignment sale opens at 11:30 am and the first talk begins at noon.
Lunch and dinner are included.
The price is $40 per person.
For more information or a registration form, please send an email to buckscountyaquariumsociety@yahoo.com.
We hope to see you there!

New fixture: http://www.cfsco.net/aqledli12bld.html

I have the blues set to about 45% and the whites at 35% or so. Fixture is 6 inches off the water. My old lights were a marineland reef capable fixture and some no brand generic 1 watt led strips from my LFS. But I've taken these off since I put the new fixture on. Like I said, there's been a mixed response. My frogspawn in particular seems to expand more but the green color seems less vibrant. Tank is 24 inches deep and frogspawn is in the middle of the tank. My brain coral is on the sand bed. I have always had trouble with this coral (probably due to the lack of light from the marineland) but so far it hasn't really shown any change. There is no tissue loss but the color has been faded for a long time and i am hoping it will come back with the light upgrade.

I have two biocubes - one 29, one 14. Both are stocked with quite a bit of nice Fiji LR and LS and have decent lighting setups for basic beginner coral (which is all I'm going to attempt for now).

I'm hoping to stock the 29 (pic below) with the Chromis (current resident), a six-stripe wrasse, a yellow goby, and one or a pair of Ocellaris. Plus an emerald crab and some hermits and snails. I've set up the LR so there's a ton of hiding places, but most have flow-through to keep the dead spots down. I have an extra powerhead but haven't yet acquired a skimmer (it's on the priority list). Maybe one day I can add an anemone, but I've been told to wait at least 6 months before even trying it.

The 14g is going to be almost strictly coral and invert, though we might put a pseudochromis or a blue damsel in, since they won't have anything to fight with. I'd like to add a fire shrimp and an arrow crab, but not till it's better established.

Coral is down the road, though I've got what looks like a volunteer polyp and a couple of other oddities on the rock. NO aiptasia, thank goodness. Any recs for easy beginner species would be very welcome.

The 29g water is in fantastic shape. Testing the 14g water today. Can't wait to see how it's looking.

60 gallon stretch hex (4' long)
Fluval 405 canister
Skilter 250
Koralia powerhead
Marineland double bright LED lighting.

I change the water every 14 days, I usually take out about 20% and replace it with RO water mixed with instant ocean salt.

I am going to get my skilter skimmer working this weekend to help with this.

I am slowly bleaching the worst of the rocks b/c it is so thick on the rocks.
(This process will take several months to complete)

Are there any tips that you can provide to what I am doing to get rid of this?

I am moving in the next month or so and will be draining the tank into buckets (only moving about a mile from my folks).

The water is crystal clear but I can't get rid of this algae (bacteria). HELP!

1.) I have a bunch of LR sitting in a tub with 2 powerheads and a heater. Haven't touched it for several months (I think almost 7). Only things I did were top off with fresh RO water and I think I put mysis in once or twice just to feed the bacteria a little bit. Did a water param check. No nitrites or ammonia. VERY high nitrates though..I think around 160 mg/L. Might be a dumb question but can I just do a near 100% water change since its just LR? I plan to slowly add this rock back into my display but I dont even wanna start until water params in the tub are in check.

2.) I've made a pvc fixture that sits on top of my tank to hold my LED fixture. Not the prettiest thing but it's functional atleast lol. No pvc is touching the water at all. Is this a safe method to spray paint it black? Do I need to worry about evaporation interacting with the spray paint or anything?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=semttrJYAh8

3.) Everytime I aquascape, its been without light because I haven't had lights that can illuminate the tank while I have my hands in there. My dream is to someday be able to aquascape and actually see what I'm doing. I've been trying to figure out how I can make my current LED fixture height adjustable without changing the pvc structure. Is there any type of retractable hooks or something that I can use to attatch my led to the pvc. Right now, its just hanging around the pvc pipe from the hanging kit it came with.

My LFS guy is recommending I start dosing in advance before buying coral. I've got Fiji live rock with nice coralline algae structures and one or two volunteer corals now.

I have a 29 biocube with T5s. The chemistry is perfect, but the salinity is a little low just yet - LFS keeps their fish at 1.018 and I'm trying to get a couple of fish in before moving up to inverts and corals.

I don't want to encourage red and green algae (and I've got plenty of both already). How soon before you add coral do you need to start feeding for it?

Also - I've got Liquid Reef on hand. Is that good, or are others better?

Thanks,
Laura

Friend gave me lionfish. Lionfish die. Friend feel bad...bring me snowflake moray eel, about 8 inches now. Eel doing good. Growing fast, too fast...and I already love him and named him Bob Dole.

What size tank should I consider now? Is a 90 big enough for these four monsters?!?!
