So, Google has brought me here many a time, but I have never joined for some reason....till now :)
I've been fish keeping for about 12 years now, so I'm not by any means "new" to it, but I do love to learn new things whenever I can, and have found out that forums are the best place to learn. Even with conflicting information, threads usually end up in a general consensus which is very helpful IMO.

Anyways, here's a little about me:
I've got 12 full time tanks.
2 55 communities, 2 40 gallon grow-out, 1 28 betta sorority/community, 3 10 gallon spawning and community tanks, and 4 2.5 gallon betta tanks. I also have a ton of betta jars, QT's, and critter keepers/bowls/tanks 2 gallons and under.
I'm a member of the international betta congress and have been breeding bettas for the last 3 years, just recently started working on breeding show quality fish.
I've also in the past 6 months decided to start a bristlenose pleco breeding "program", at the moment I have calicos, green dragons, albinos, super reds, and starlight x green dragon crosses (bad AB seller). Working on getting some more "rare" species in like starlights, clowns, and snowballs here soon.
I'm a planted tank enthusiast. Every tank I own is planted and I've got 5 dirted walstad method tanks running now. 11/12 tanks is low-tech with liquid carbon being the most I add for them, and 1 (my 28) is CO2 injected with a paintball system.

Hmm, I think that's all I have to add.

I'm excited to learn more about my chosen hobby and maybe even help some others learn!

Hi everyone. My husband and I started a new 36 gallon fresh water fish tank about 3 weeks ago. We just had the water tested yesterday and noticed that about 5 of our fish had ich. Also our beta died- looked like someone beat him up and chewed up his fins. We may have gone overboard with too many fish. We have about 30 small to medium fish. The water tested high for ammonia and we did a 25 % water change and vacuumed the bottom yesterday. Then we added the ich medicine. We have lost a brand new cat fish, the beta and two tetras so far. I read about cycling today on google. Can I purchase the Bio Spira at Petco? Since we live in Las Vegas and it is already quite warm will I need to bring a cooler to get it home in viable shape? Any other advice? Heather:confused:

I am new this forum and to salt water tanks. I have finished cycling a 37 gal tank with a 5 gal refugium. I am looking forward to purchasing some new live rock this week (5/20/13).

When I was buying stuff from the tank I found the stands that were available to be cheaply made with sub-standard materials. I am a woodworker so I built my stand out of fir for the structure and cherry to finish it off. I learned some things about this form of furniture and will be able to build more beautiful and functional stands in the future.

Is there a market for this kind of product and what would be the best way to market this product?

Thanks,

I am two weeks into becoming an aquarium enthusiast. Many mistakes already made due to horrible advice on the part of "professionals" in the business as well as my ignorance. Looking to expand my horizons and learn how to properly build a great community of fish in my little 10gal tank. Naturally my father-in-law was here for a 2 week visit and decided to buy my daughter a male betta. Went to a national chained pet store and was told that it was a great idea to buy a 10 gal tank for the betta, get him 5 neon tetra and 2 Cory friends along with real plants. Simply run the tank for 30 min before introducing all fish. Needless to say, all 5 tetras were dead within 24 hours and the betta under 72 hours. I now have 2 Cory's in a 10gal tank with no water change since first setting everything up 2 weeks ago. Any advice as far as water changes, compatible fish type/number, and live plants for my 10gal tank? Thanks in advance for your help!
