What is it, and is this a snail that anyone would want? It was a hitch hiker on some live plants I got from a friend. I have the plants in a temp tank that I was gonna treat with copper to de-snail, before they go in the main tank.
Other than that, this snail is quite active, always cruising all over the place. His gold tank mate is even more insanely active. Every time you look in there he's doing his glide maneuver where he decides to jump off of stuff. Wheeeeee!!! PLOP..

I have been having trouble with the health of my shrimp. Yesterday I tested the tds for the first time and although the tester is not calibrated it was high compared to tap and bottled water. Because of this I did a 4 gallon water change on the 20 gallon shrimp tank and replaced 1/2 of a gallon of ro water and the rest tap water.
What causes this milky coloration and is there a way I can save the female and the eggs? The ro system was just repaired after 7 years of sitting unused and I did not replace the filters. Could this have caused a problem?

Hey Guys!

So I have been having major problems with shrimps not breeding in some of my tanks...I found out I needed to check TDS which could be too high and found it to be above 600 in 3 of my tanks(the ONLY tanks w/ shrimp breeding issues)...

Some Background: I own 5 shrimp tanks...20G with fire reds which is doing great! 8G with red/blue rilis and CRS which is also doing great! 3 10Gs with red cherries, blue pearls, and yellows(each in diff) with same heater, substrate, everything!!!

So TDS seems high as meter says 500 is max guidelines for USA...

Questions...

1) Is this(high TDS) why my shrimp are not breeding? The red cherries used to be with the Crystals in the 8G until I got the red rilis and replaced them...All used to breed until I placed into these tanks...

2) How do I reduce TDS?

3) What should the TDS be? I will check my other tanks(with shrimp doing great) and post soon...

Thanks! Appreciate it:)

Is there anything I should know? I haven't owned a cray (besides the babies I had that got eaten only after having them 4-5 days) since I was a kid like 20yrs ago.

keeping fiddler crabs/ red clawed crabs in the aquarium

As you may or may not know red clawed crabs are actually terrestrial inverts as they need access to a terrestrial environment. If you are like me and have a community tank it is not possible to create a terrestrial environment above the water column. I have found a way to recreate a terrestrial environment under the water column in my tank. What I have done is taken a vase that can be bought almost anywhere and filled it with gravel and a large rock for my crabs to sit on. Then what I did was take an aerator and brought the tube into the vase to add oxygen to the vase. If you do this correctly the vase will be half filled with air and the remaining will slowly drip out to the surface. My crabs enjoy going into this environment to regain full oxygen capacity before heading back out into my 55 gallon planted aquarium. They feed and explore the tank while my fish completely leave them alone. I have had my crabs for about 2 months and they have molted twice, showing that they are getting adequate nutrition. I have posted some pictures of my completed project. If you have any questions let me know!
