So I have a 2.6 gallon (Fluval Spec III) planted red cherry shrimp (just RCS) tank. I have like 14-15 of them in there. Most of the shrimp are offspring of 2 females / two males I started with. However I tested the water and every thing looks ok: Nitrates and Nitrites are at or near zero, my pH is 6, but, the only thing is that my water is on the hard side. I have a 6.6 gallon tank with just 3 RCS in it and they are noticeably vibrant red more so than my RCS tank.

Let me know why they seem less happy then the ones in my 6.6g tank.

Here are two possible culprits but let me know what u think.

1.) I added a piece of "drift wood" which is acctualy a base/root of some sapling (not pine). Its been in there since the start of the tank like 8 months. Now it is getting soft and spongy in places. Could this be reliesing ... stuff in the water causing stress to the RCS ???

2.) Water is too hard ... idk...

I do weekly water changes and feed them every other day (now that flat worms have showing up).
Why are they not doing as well as the few in my other tank ... ?

I have a 10 gallon tank that I had transferred most of my RCS into. Well, not thinking before I did it, I used 30 ml of hydrogen peroxide to kill off a few spots of BBA that I transplanted from my main tank via the bacopa it was growing on. Let's just say my lack of foresight eradicated my beneficial bacteria, as I went from 0/0/5-10 for ammonia/nitrite/nitrate to I don't know how much/0/0 over the next week and a half. There weren't die offs for the first few days, so I didn't notice, but then they started dying in droves, and it took me a few more days to get smart enough to test the water. That started a cycle of multiple 40% water changes a day, dosing with Stability, and squeezing the sponge from my 55's AC 70 into the 10. The tank is correctly cycled, again, with 0/0/5-10 readings. It's been that way for over a week now, but I'm still getting 1 or 2 deaths per day. Any ideas why? We don't use any aerosols, the water is at about 78, everything that's in the aquarium is either new and designed for aquarium use, or is old and designed for aquarium use (rocks, plants, artificial decor from my 55).

The pH is 8.2, as opposed the 7.4 in my 55. I'm guessing that's due to the driftwood more than anything else, since the only differences in the two tanks is that I use Purigen in my 55, but not the 10, and I have driftwood in the 55 (3 pieces) and none in the 10.

All were Juvies when I got them about 3 months ago so she is definitely a new mother. Im assuming thats the reason because its not the water quality not stress due to fish because the 29 gallon houses nothing but shrimp and snails. If I remove the eggs can I hatch them myself and if so any suggestions to point me in the right direction?
My hope is to get a strong colony going before I get gudgeons in the tank, but I fear I may have no males.. which just means I'm forced to return to the LFS (a terrible fate, I know.) I only managed to get photos of 3/4 of the shrimp, the last one was on the backside of one of the rocks. I was happy to see they have colored up nicely in the last day or so. Enjoy the photos!

I noticed a few micro planaria in my 25 gallon tank. It is a moderately planted RCS and otto tank. I've probably got over a hundred shrimp in there, mts, and some kind of other snail. I have been having deaths ranging around 2-3 shrimp a day for the last couple of days. Molted ones, one with eggs... so I know she had just molted. They are soft when I get them out of the tank. One of my weak ottos died also. This happened the last time I had planaria, so it made me start looking for the little buggers. Yup, they were in there. I NORMALLY feed Repashy SuperGreen for my ottos and Repashy Shrimp Soufflee for my cherries. I ran out of my frozen batch I had mixed, so a week or so ago I started supplementing with slivered zucchini and OmegaOne Veggie Rounds for the high spirulina content. It was shortly after this that I noticed the planaria. I had a bad planaria outbreak about a year ago when I first got started and was using the OmegaOne exclusively. Does anyone have any idea if the rounds could have contained/caused the planaria? Or maybe it was so dense that it didn't all get eaten and cause the problem. Even with my six ottos, I only fed half a pellet every other day. Maybe less, because the shrimp ate the zucchini also. Anyway, I bombed the tank with fenbendazole last night. I hope the planaria die, but I hope I don't dispatch my mts. I LOVE trumpet snails! They had FINALLY gotten back to normal and started breeding from the last time I bombed the tank about 10 months ago. :( Anybody ever had a problem like this?

I got some RCS last weekend. One died in shipping and one died shortly after it went in the tank. The rest have been doing fine running around doing their thing. 3 of them molted last night/today at some point.

Yes, I didn't quarantine any of this stuff, my failure on that. There's another thread in the disease section about the fish dying off over the beginning of this week for no apparent reason. The remaining 6 have been doing great. Now two of the fish in the tank now have 1 or 2 little white spots that appears to be ich.

After doing a bunch of research, this was the only place I saw yay or nay on salt/heat treatment and RCS. So I started to raise the temperature, about 1 degree over two hours, and started to introduce salt, 6 teaspoons over 3 hours to a 10 gallon.

That's when the shrimp started freaking out. One was going haywire swimming around and up to the top of the water almost frantically. Occasionally one or two would join in for a second then go back to eating. While I prepped water for an emergency water change they eventually all more or less calmed down sitting around in random places. I didn't do a water change since I would like the ich to be treated ASAP but I reduced the temp back to where it was and am not adding any more salt.

Since I've had them, the shrimp, they don't swim that much or as erratic unless one of the fish nips at them. I have no clue what normal behavior is though. Is this normal behavior or an adverse reaction to the salt or heat?

I sure don't want to kill the shrimp because there is a sick fish. At this point I guess I'll hope for some responses and see who survives the night.

Thanks in advance for any advice. I swear this hobby is ridiculous.

I only added some gravel, not even completely covering the bottom because I ran out. It's natural rock, pebble size. I also dropped in a small piece of dry cuttle bone.

The biggest crayfish started kicking herself over and over in the eyes.... Sometimes she'd pick up a piece of gravel with one of her feet and use that to smack herself in the eyes with. ??? WTH? None of the other crayfish did this. She was literally kicking. It looked hard, not like a light scratching.
