I'm up a little north of you in Ohio and was only out of power for almost exactly 24 hours. I had my prized potter's angel and chalk bass die in the matter of 5 hours (both happened to be in the same tank. A juvenile majestic angel and black footed clown also in the tank were also on their way...
I'm going to have to say that the fish was already dying, or have a strong inclination that this is the case. I have some of these on one of my tanks, my QT tank and to mix water and never have had any living thing stuck to the intake unless it was already dying, as was the case during my brook...
my question would be whether it was eating at the store you got it from and then what was it eating there? Also, offering up a variety of foods from frozen to flake/pellet to different types of seaweed. I have 3 SW tanks and all get no less than 4 types of frozen foods mixed together with...
preferably still more variety. They are omnivores so a diet strictly of meats is not optimal. Will they eat plain frozen mysis shrimp? If so, I'd skip the brine altogether.
Think of it this way, you give children only candy and junk food to eat, they kinda get used to it. Try to feed them any green stuff or anything good for them and they aren't going to like it too much. I second the suggestion to only give them the option of other foods and not brine.
Water butt and jerry can?? Y'all over there use some funny words lol.
However, I do the same thing with using a trash can and using a heater and small powerhead and keep things going in case I need to do a fast water change for any reason
So, what kind of a solution are you looking for? Wanting to keep him in the container for a long time? I guess I don't get what you're looking for since the reasonable solutions were shot down. I'm sure another LFS would take him with your LFS not willing to.
I had one that was no problems at all. I moved it to a different tank and apparently my Lunare Wrasse decided he was going to be a good snack. Thought the sixline was big enough and definitely could fit in nooks and crannies that the lunare couldn't and would be safe.
okay I thought I was having massive user error with this one. There was no keeping it working how it should. I'd love to hear some additional suggestions. it's the only one I could find that I didn't need additional timers for actinic CF and the metal halide lights
on the conservation aspect, I understand better now, thanks. I really wasn't sure what it was being used for. I'm used to people doing that for no reason, whatsoever.
I love the old Ocracoke. We spend a day down there and used to hit up the shops for local stuff but it's pretty much turned...
my guess is going more towards brook. What other fish are left now? I'd say to get them out and into QT and let that tank be fallow for 6 weeks or longer to let the brook go through its life cycle like ich.
Sorry to hear about Dori. :( It's never fun to lose one fish, let alone multiple ones.
