i finally got around to trying a scrap piece of that black sticky vinylused to make signs on a 10 gallon tank. except for a few air bubbles i need to take care of yet it turned out real nice. i am now planning on getting more of it and using it on my new 45 breeder's back, sides, and bottom.

a seller told he doesn't like it, to sharp angular. he didn't go into a great deal of specifics on how this negativley affected his fish but he uses that smaller gained black sand(from estes it think) because of it.

I realise 5-7 days probably isn't going to hurt it but should we starve you out to make you do something you don't want to do! is it harder then maple or oak?

if its only going to have one piece to munch on try to make sure it a softer wood (not one of those hard sinking types) as its easier for them to chew/eat. they may not eat wood as fast as larger royals or L204 but they do eat a noticable amount.

its all about the surface area of the particles/pores not the surface area it can cover when whole or crushed.

I wouldn't use bleach it gets in the pores of the wood and can discolor the wood, just clean it up real good and soak it hot water for a while. the main concern is its decomposition under water if it wasn't completely "drifted" and didn't come out of a bog. the places that collect drift wood...
