When I was breeding them commercially I would setup a pair in a 10 gallon. Now that I am not doing it intentionally any longer, I still have a group of 4 in a 20H that are breeding like crazy.

Tetras (even neons) are pretty good fry predators. If you want to raise the babies you will want to move them to a separate tank.

No such thing as a 20 standard. 20's come in three basic sizes. 20 Long = 30 x 12 x 12, 20 High 24 x 12 x 16, and 20XH 20 x 10 x 24.

Best tank for breeding plecos is the 20 Long as it gives the largest footprint (plecos don't need height). But you could breed a pair in any of the three really.

20H is the most common size sold (it's the one most often used in kits).

I have a trio of albinos that breed happily and regularly in a 10. With a pair of electric blue rams. They'll breed in ANYTHING, it's more a matter of getting the fry to survive. With other fish in the tank, fry survival is less likely.

As for 'racist'...there are several different species of bristlenose with an albino form. Not all forms will be fertile together.

Too bad the BN died. Bulldog plecos aren't the easiest to keep long term. Good luck with him.
