Will this mix of fish work in a 500 gallon aquarium?

No not a shovlenose the wide head catfish is from africa and not as common.

I am not sure about how much money you have but you might wanna consider going with a smaller tank. A 500 gallon tank can cost a pretty penny. If you have the money then great, but I just am a bit curious because I have heard that they cost thousands of dollars.

You should honestly ask this over at MFK cause aquaria central isn't really monster fish based, if your going 500 gallons for the catfish and get a silver Arowana and a spotted gar and get a fire eel and some birchirs

You mean because it sounds expensive? Startup cost will be quite high, sure. But maintenances and upkeep does not double by doubling tank volume. Taking care of 10 tanks with 90 gallons each will be more expensive than 1 tank that is 900 gallon - time and money wise.
